Obesity and Metabolism

We conduct clinical trials and observational studies in adults with obesity and related comorbidities (e.g., non-alcoholic fatty liver, type-2 diabetes) to better understand the metabolic effects of obesity and weight loss, but also of qualitative changes in the diet.

  • What are the metabolic effects of weight loss, and are they dose-dependent?
  • Do diets of different macronutrient composition have important metabolic effects independent of changes in body weight?
  • What are the mechanisms behind the observed effects of different diets on body weight?
  • How do peripheral insulin sensitivity and pancreatic insulin secretion interact to determine plasma glucose homeostasis in obesity and in response to dietary interventions?
  • What are the factors that determine the individual response to the same diet treatment?
